The Jacksons: America's First Family of Music
OK, I haven't seen this DVD or had even heard of it until I spotted it at a store, but it looks like it should be good--! It seems to be a TV special on the Jackson family that Marlon put together for airing on his MBC Network.

We Are the World - The Story Behind the Song (20th Anniversary Special Edition)
We Are the World - The Story Behind the Song (20th Anniversary Special Edition)
As you know, Michael co-wrote the song, We are the World, with Lionel Richie (perhaps better known to newer generations as "Nicole's dad!"). The Jackson family played a large part in the production of the song, as sister La Toya and brothers Randy, Marlon, and Tito all sang in the chorus, and Michael sang solo. The recording took place in January 1985, kinda in secret, after that night's American Music Awards.

Val's Little Jackson Five/Jacksons Store!

It is not exaggeration to state that Motown compiles a new Jackson Five greatest hits CD every year--! Here are some of the most recent and most popular compilations.

See available digital music downloads below.

Joyful Jukebox Music
With the release of this collection, the Jackson 5 album catalog on CD is finally complete. Two hard-to-find albums return, with a bonus track to boot! After the J5's explosive success at Motown, the group left to join Epic Records in 1975. When their new label debuted The Jacksons, Motown did what any smart label would: issue tracks from the vaults. Joyful Jukebox Music came out in 1976. The bulk of Joyful’s tracks were cut in 1972-1973, around the Skywriter and Get It Together sessions. In 1979, the Jacksons jumped back into the Top 10 with Destiny, just as Michael was beginning his ascent to solo super-stardom with Off TheWall. Motown again dipped into its archive and issued Boogie on its Natural Resources label. J5 fans were ecstatic - the seven unreleased tracks weren’t throwaways, but great finds. It was only out in the market for a very brief window before being withdrawn. This disc closes with a previously unheard, uncut version of "Hum Along And Dance." Originally an 8:36 album track from Get It Together, "Hum" has been restored to its original near-15 minute length. Both Boogie and Joyful Jukebox Music have long been highly sought by collectors, and we’re elated to have them available for the first time on CD. No mere sweeping of the dusty corners of the vaults, this.

The Essential Jacksons
The Essential Jacksons
Finally! A compilation of the CBS Records/Jacksons years! Includes an extended version of "Enjoy Yourself," and "Lovely One," "Can You Feel It," "2300 Jackson Street," "Shake your Body (Down to the Ground)," and, of course, the so-called "This Place Hotel," which is actually Heartbreak Hotel -- with La Toya providing the opening scream!

The Very Best of the Jacksons
The Very Best of The Jacksons [IMPORT]

Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues [VHS]

Originally titled MOTOWN ON SHOWTIME: MICHAEL JACKSON as a special for the Showtime cable channel in the late 1980s, it's a cross between (and pre-cursor to) the A&E "Biography" and VH1 "Behind the Music" shows. Narrated by James Earl Jones, the show features many great and legendary stars all talking about Michael -- including some who are no longer with us, such as Gene Kelly, Gregory Peck, and Katharine Hepburn. There are several rarely-seen TV clips of the Jackson Five performing.

Motown 25 - Yesterday, Today, Forever [VHS]

On this tape is the legendary 1983 performance of "Billie Jean" that showed everybody that Michael could no longer be considered just an older child star, but was without question an adult performer who would not be denied true stardom any longer. It may be lip-synced, but it was after this performance that sales for "Thriller" went through the stratosphere!! But before Michael sings "Billie Jean," there's a reunion of the Jackson Five -- as well as of the "Jackson Six" when Randy comes out to perform!

Hey, you know what? I'm not even going to pretend that this a good compilation of late 1970s/early 1980s music videos; with some exceptions, despite some big stars, they're certainly their lesser hits. BUT it does have the cute little video for The Jacksons BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE (whoo!)

Finally (!) I've remembered to add the 1992 ABC-TV miniseries about the Jackson family! It stars Angela Bassett as mother Katherine Jackson, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (an actor thoroughly undervalued in Hollywood, by the way!) as father Joseph Jackson, Vanessa Williams as Motown superwoman Suzanne De Passe, and, in the most outrageous stunt casting of all, Billy Dee Williams as Berry Gordy!

OK, I haven't seen this DVD or had even heard of it until I spotted it at a store, but it looks like it should be good--! It seems to be a TV special on the Jackson family that Marlon put together for airing on his MBC Network. Included among the performance clips is an interview with the brothers (except Michael) conducted by Marlon's daughter, Valencia (who's trying to break into the TV business; in 2003, she was on ABC's The View morning show for a week's tryout).

We Are the World - The Story Behind the Song (20th Anniversary Special Edition)
As you know, Michael co-wrote the song, We are the World, with Lionel Richie (perhaps better known to newer generations as "Nicole's dad!" I like to call him Chuckii Booker's boss!). The Jackson family played a large part in the production of the song, as sister La Toya and brothers Randy, Marlon, and Tito all sang in the chorus, and Michael sang solo. The recording took place in January 1985, kinda in secret, after that night's American Music Awards.

Bette Midler would later joke, deadpan, on her comedy record, Mud Will Be Flung Tonight, of the experience: "I stood next to La Toya. She wore a headband. I felt naked--!"
