Music and Theatres

My HEY DJ! Twitter List was my first Twitter list, which I originally created to get a handle on all of the deejays I was hearing in dance music, when I got interested in it in the late 2000s, early 2010s. I’d first connected with the music in the Second Life virtual world and so was regularly attending, well, virtual reality raves on Saturdays–! I wanted to hear a selection of dance music with a better-than-average possibility of hearing Kylie Minogue — who I’d only recently found out was NOT a two-hit wonder as she’d been “portrayed” on USA radio and was trying to catch up with the decade and change of her hit songs that I’d missed, working both backwards and forwards from HUGE 2001 hit “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” — and so of course I started listening to gay UK dance music online streaming radio station, Gaydar Radio (and its immortal sponsor, R&G Builders, whose radio spots had the tag line, “Why have a gay-friendly builder, when you can have a friendly gay builder??”), to the (morning for me, early afternoon for them) show by Simon Le Vans; the station later merged with and became and still is Gaydio. Every week I heard both new and new-to-me songs and so put together this Twitter list as well as dance music playlists on YouTube. As time went on, though, I started adding musical artists and radio stations to the list that weren’t dance music because isn’t it ALL JUST MUSIC (plus I couldn’t imagine trying to put together a list for every type of music I knew, not when I freely listened to the all of the various Jacksons, Armin Van Buuren, Enya, Beyonce, Wynton Marsalis, Keith Urban, Shakira, Chris Willis w/David Guetta, Sting, Prince, Cher, Robi Draco Rosa… you get the idea).

Theatres is my Twitter List for stage shows all over the world, from Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway, Chicago, the West End, and beyond, acknowledging the force that social media has become in promoting and informing on live theater (waves to Lin-Manuel Miranda and Hamilton). Naturally I extended the list to include ballet, opera, symphonies, critics, podcasts, awards, etc. Enjoy!

Oh, and speaking of Hamilton . . .
